Every family has its own beliefs, traditions and ways of saying goodbye. At Tony Clarke Funeral Directors, we have experience arranging funerals for families from a range of faiths and cultural backgrounds across Sunderland.

The exact customs followed are always led by the family. Sikh guidance recognises that washing and dressing the person may be carried out by relatives before cremation.
Depending on the family’s wishes, the coffin may be taken to the Gurdwara before the cremation. Family members and the congregation may gather for prayers and religious observances before continuing to the crematorium.

After the prayers or family ceremony, the coffin can be transferred respectfully to the hearse for the journey to the crematorium.
In some families, relatives may wish to help carry or place the coffin into the hearse. A priest or family representative may also take part in the procession, and flowers or petals may form part of the family’s own tradition.

Floral tributes can also form a significant part of the funeral. Families, friends, businesses and community organisations may send wreaths, sprays and other floral tributes, sometimes in substantial numbers.
